**** Review: Fringe- Sugar Blue- A fabulous Frolic in Freo
Burlesque review – Sugar blue revue
“Do you want glam with your ham?” asks Ruby Slippers , MC, setting the tone for a fabulous frolic in Fremantle. The setting of the Maritime Museum inspired a crazy audience participation routine with gents creating pirate costumes and swords from local newspapers. For all you Brits out there, despite the saucy ladies exposing luscious lingerie and more, the exhortion to clap, laugh, sigh, cheer, roar, whistle, stamp and cat call, felt like a very grown up sort of pantomime.
There were broads with bubbles in bath, fillies with feathers, glitz and glam galore. Crazy Clara Cupcakes with her kooky hoola hoop routine had us on the edge of our seats as we wondered if she was going to pull off some tricky routines.
Johny Domino provided some delicious eye candy for the ladies with his bulging biceps and well waxed moustache which he assured us was genuine. He tore up the stage with his strong man antics leaving detritus all over the stage.
The prettily corseted stage hands fluttered in after every act to clear up the mess and were as delightful to watch as the main acts.
Bobby and Jude from Sweden wowed us with some classic Lindy Hop routines before the glorious Lulu Licquor took to the stage and wowed the audience with a very classy, slow tease which left us all leaving the theatre with broad smiles on our faces.
All in all, I give Sugar Blue Revue a 4/5 stars.
Well worth watching and safe to take your mum, well my Mum anyway!
