Mind.Blown.So.Awesome

Posted 15th August, 2010 by

It’s very rare that I am truly inspired by another hula hooper.  Don’t get me wrong, there are some amazing talent performers out there but a lot of it is very samey samey.  Especially the Russian ex gymnast/ballerina types.  Some of the tricks they do are just so unrelatable. I doubt I’ll every be able to pull my foot up to my head and spin the hoop on it, that’s all I’m saying.

But I have recently had my mind blown wide open by the amazing hooping burlesque lady, Lula Houp-Garou. I found her when I saw her on the New York Burlesque Festival Website credited as being from Western Australia (she is actually from Chicago – they must have gotten us confused, both being hoopers and all).  Naturally I investigated and HOLY MOLEY, I’m so glad I did.   Her acts are just sensational.   I’ve always thought of incorporating my hoops into costumes and Lula pulls it off flawlessly.   I love the way she uses the hoop, just one most of the time and the way she takes her clothes off while still spinning the hoop.  And she can hoop in stockings, a skill I am completely lacking and will forever be envious of.

Just incredible!  I and so inspired, especially by the Jellyfish Kiss act.  I am over the (paper) moon to be performing with her at the New York Burlesque Festival.  It’s going to be amazing.

I’m off to write down the million ideas I have swirling around in my head right now.  Hooray!

See you again soon my dears (I promise)!
