Bumper Burlesque Weekend In Las Vegas

Posted 3rd June, 2011 by

As many burlesque enthusiasts will be aware, this weekend is the 2011 Burlesque Hall of Fame weekend which of course includes the Miss Exotic World competition.  Who will be crowned the Reigning Queen of Burlesque? Who knows, but I sure as hell want to check out the clips on YouTube afterwards as no doubt there will be some astounding routines and costumes. Also happening this weekend in Las Vegas... • read more •

More Powell to You

Posted 8th November, 2010 by

Sorry for being so absent ladies and gents!  Things have been a little on the crazy side around here.  But I am back!  YES!! With a vengeance?  We shall see! Anyhoo, I am still full of ideas for acts and I’m absorbing inspiration like some kind of swarovski encrusted sponge.  My lastest endeavor is an act inspired by my favourite lady dancer of all time, Eleanor Powell.  ... • read more •

Majesty

Posted 1st October, 2010 by

I’m at the New York Burlesque festival right now and I’m feeling quite inspired!  I have a million ideas swimming around in my head.  I’m thinking about a Queen Elizabeth act with a giant wig.  YES!  Also, a balloon pop tease with a twist.  Perhaps involving the making of balloon animals (finally, useless skill #139 put to use.  Take that Toys ‘R’ Us)! I’ll keep... • read more •

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! NO, it’s Dita!

Posted 13th July, 2010 by

Dita is now officially a Virgin pin-up!  This is one of the coolest things I have ever seen!  She is on the front of a plane for goodness sake! The plane flies between London and Las Vegas.  The Dita plane was to commemorate the 10th year of Virgin flying that route.   GAH! So glamourous.  Those Louboutins are RIDICULOUS and that corset is to die... • read more •

The Emerald City

Posted 26th June, 2010 by

Hello lovelies!  Sorry for the lack of postings.  I am still having MAJOR computer issues. So anyhoo, I am in the States!  And loving it!  First stop was Seattle.  Well, actually it was LAX.  I had a giant glass of wine in the hopes it would make me sleepy.  It didn’t.  I was awake for like 40 hours or something ridiculous. Seriously a long long flight. ... • read more •

I Dream of Zelda

Posted 3rd June, 2010 by

I am not one to buy magazines.  I have three or four that I read on a regular basis but I can’t abide with buying every fashion magazine out there.  I will only ever buy Vogue and the such like if there is a particularly good editorial (like this stunning Tim Walker shoot in British Vogue.  I have so much love for this issue).  I just find they... • read more •

Cute Nails for Every Occasion

Posted 26th May, 2010 by

I have never been much of a nail painter.  I just love the look of painted nails (especially vintage manicures like the ones that Dita Von Teese is always sporting) but I have really weak nails that just don’t grow and are super short, stubby and gross.  When I used to get manicures at my local beauty parlour in Bangkok (the only time in my life... • read more •

Ahoy!

Posted 24th May, 2010 by

Here in Perthville, we recently hosted a Lindy Hop exchange.  Hullaballoo to be exact.  For those not in the know, a lindy hop exchange is where people from all over Australia (and sometimes the world) come together for dancing good times.  Hulla is always such a blast!  The organisers did a great job this year.  Each night had a theme kind of based around old movies from the Casablanca... • read more •

Everybody’s Doing the Charleston!

Posted 21st May, 2010 by

Oh how I love to charleston!  Often when I tell people about what kind of dancing I do, I’m met with blank stares, lots of questions and it may even require a demonstration.  So here is a little education for you.  Charleston is a dance that was at the height of it’s popularity in the 1920’s.  It’s origins are within the African American dance community... • read more •
